Commercial property area guide: Dudley - England

Commercial properties to rent in Dudley

We have the Industrial Revolution to thank for Dudley. This town sprang into life when the Midlands became a hive of mining activity – particularly with coal, iron and limestone. It’s often called the capital of ‘The Black Country’, so called because of all the soot in the air when heavy industry was in full swing. Today, a museum demonstrates what the town was once like – a distant memory from the market town it is today.

You’ll find Dudley nestled within the West Midlands, just across from Birmingham and south of Wolverhampton. Its close proximity to the M5 makes it a great base for logistics firms. You can reach both Manchester in the north and Bristol in the south in around two hours from Dudley.

By 1990, a new shopping centre known as Merry Hill had changed the retail landscape of Dudley. It put over 250 shops just a 10-minute drive away, bringing a new hub to the area. Retail giant intu currently owns Merry Hill, which is helping it to flourish and attract visitors from across the West Midlands.

Living and working in Dudley offers many of the benefits of Birmingham but with lower property prices and a more laidback lifestyle. There are a few local attractions, including the zoo, the ruins of a 13th century castle and the Black Country Living Museum, which give the area family-friendly appeal.
