Commercial Property Area Guide: Highbury - London
Highbury is a district in North London, sandwiched between Holloway, Islington and Stoke Newington. Although predominantly a residential area, it is home to the Emirates Stadium, which brings in swathes of visitors and can seat up to 60,000 supporters.
Highbury was once private land, with Highbury House and related buildings the only properties in the area. At the end of the 18th century, the land started to be sold. The only land left as a reminder of its past is Highbury Fields – a 27.5 acre area of parkland surrounded by grand Georgian and Victorian town houses.
The district was once famous for Wessex Studios. Set up by Sir George Martin (the Beatles producer), the studios have recorded albums for the likes of Queen, Genesis, The Rolling Stones, the Sex Pistols and The Clash.
Today, Highbury Park and Blackstock Road, further along the A1201, are the working high streets, which are home to a number of shops, pubs and salons.
